What can you do to whiten my teeth?

We use the latest procedures and materials, such as in-office, one-hour bleaching and veneers to help you achieve a radiant smile.

What are Invisalign® Invisible Braces?

Invisalign® uses a series of nearly undetectable aligners instead of brackets and wires. So even up close it's really hard for people to tell you're wearing Invisalign. This new treatment can give you the smile you've always wanted without the braces you've always avoided. More about Invisalign® Invisible Braces.

If I smoked for years, can whitening help me?

The answer is yes, depending on the amount and type of staining. If whitening does not work, porcelain veneers will allow you to have the beautiful smile you have always wanted.

Is it normal for my teeth and/or gums to bleed when I brush?

No. A comprehensive oral exam and cleaning, combined with good home care instruction will help you achieve healthy gums. In general, bleeding gums are a sign of gingivitis or periodontal disease. However, other conditions may make your gums bleed. Please speak to one of our doctors if your gums consistently bleed.

Do I really need x-rays?

Dental x-rays are taken routinely by your dentist, however in our office, we utilize digital x-ray equipment which uses less than 1/2 of the radiation that traditional x-rays use. There are many diseases and dental defects, which can not be seen by the naked eye, especially where teeth are concerned. These may include such things as decay under old fillings, teeth trapped below the gums, cavities between the teeth, bone loss as a result of gum disease and changes in either jaw bone structure which can be affected by many systemic diseases.

If you are a new patient, we may recommend x-rays to check the current status of your mouth and to check for hidden problems. Upon your first visit to the dentist we will usually take those x-rays that will be necessary to comprehensively assess your oral health. A full series of x-rays usually consists of 14 - 18 films. A Panoramic x-ray film showing a much greater areas of your jaw bones may be needed as well in order for your dentist to comfortably and competently examine you. Every six months or so your dentist may take a small series of x-rays consisting of four to six films. A six-month period is a long time in the life of a cavity and it is for this reason that a visit to the dentist every six months is so important.

X-rays are an extremely useful and important diagnostic tool and can aid in preventing many major problems. The importance of routine thorough examinations by your dental team will do much to avoid major problems.

What is an implant?

Implants work by mimicking the structure of natural teeth. Like natural teeth, dental implants are secured in the jawbone. Successful dental implants become firmly embedded in the jaw, providing a chewing surface like that of natural teeth. Implants can replace one tooth or multiple teeth depending on the circumstance. Please ask our doctors about this exciting procedure. More about implants...

I think I grind my teeth. Is this related to the headaches that I get in the morning and when I am stressed?

Probably. The way the muscles and joints work in your jaw, consistent grinding can cause you some pain. Typical problems include headaches in the morning, while you are under increased stress, sore muscles in your temple area, and a sore neck. You do not need to live with this type of discomfort. Our doctors can make you a splint that will minimize or remove this problem altogether. Learn about TMD.
